Valentines

We are making valentines for classmates today. Tomorrow, they have a party. It's the only holiday party the school has during the year. This is the first time we've done this. I grew up as a Jehovah's Witness, so there were no valentines for us. I've never done this before. The kiddies seem to like it. My oldest made me a valentine last night while he was with the babysitter. He used glitter glue and crayons, and wrote me a message in bubble letters. It was very sweet.

I remember being in 3rd grade on v-day. All the other holidays, I was excused to the library during the party. I guess my teacher assumed valentines day was safe, having no religious connotations, so she let me stay in class. So, for the first time ever, I got valentines cards in my desk. Let me tell you, I was excited. And the next day, I had to give every single one back. Wow, was I sad. I don't know why I'm rambling about this, it's just on my mind every February 14th. I think it makes it a little sweeter to watch my kids do normal kids-in-school-stuff, having missed bunches of things myself. I am excited for them!
